Jürgen, tell us briefly who you are and how it all started.
I'm Jürgen Lenz. I founded the company Lenz&Gomez Personaldienstleistungen together with my colleague in 1991. Since then, we have been running it as a family business - with a lot of passion and personal commitment.
What inspired you to found Lenz&Gomez back then?
We both previously worked for a temporary employment agency. We really enjoyed this work - and we were successful. At some point, I realized that we could do it ourselves - and that's when I decided to set up my own company.
How were the first few days after the company was founded?
To be honest, the start was pretty difficult. We had to overcome a lot of bureaucratic hurdles to get our license in the first place. Then came the search for office space and the first employees - that took a lot of time, patience and nerves.
Were there moments when you doubted the idea?
No doubts in that sense. I wanted to prove something to myself. Of course, things didn't always go smoothly, but giving up was never an option.
What motivated you to keep going in difficult times? Were there any formative successes or setbacks?
There have been many ups and downs over the years. The important thing has always been to keep going, adapt and keep at it. There are good days and bad days - but if you believe in it, success will come. And that proves you right.
What was the market for personnel services like back then - what was different to today?
Competition didn't used to be as fierce as it is today. Words still counted. Verbal agreements were kept - that worked. Today, a lot is based on offers, profiles and administrative processes. It has become much more complex and formal.
What has set Lenz & Gomes apart from other personnel service providers from the very beginning?
Our greatest strength has always been our speed and honesty - both towards customers and employees. This has set us apart from many others.
In the fall of 2022, you handed over the management of the company to Melih Derinalp. How was this transition for you - personally and for the company?
The transition to Melih worked very well. I wanted him to join the company right from the start. We have worked together closely and trustingly for over 30 years - so it's all the better that this is now officially continuing.
What role do your sons Dr. Fabian Lenz and Philipp Lenz play in the company?
Both put their heart and soul into it. One takes care of legal matters, the other is active in the strategic and financial areas. It's great to see how they support the company.
Would you do anything differently with the knowledge you have today if you were to start up again?
I don't think so. Of course you make mistakes - maybe the same ones again, depending on the situation. But basically, I would say that everything was okay the way it was.
Is there an anecdote from the early days that sticks in your mind?
Oh yes - our first job was a direct mailing for a neighboring company. It had nothing to do with temporary work, but it was very time-consuming. Fortunately, we had great employees who supported us.
How has founding Lenz&Gomez changed your life - both professionally and privately?
It was a constant up and down. You have to fight, persevere and not get discouraged. There are sleepless nights, but also many wonderful moments. And success gives you strength and motivation.
What advice would you give young founders?
Plan well ahead and ask yourself honestly: Do I have the drive? Do I really want to go through with it? What do I want to achieve - and with whom? Who can support me? You need clarity, courage and, above all, perseverance.
